Where to watch it: Netflix
In order to increase the birth rate in this future version of Japan, the government decided to assign their 16 years old citizens to their partner based on a compatibility calculation. Failing to follow the government’s rules will result in several penalties. Now think about that for a moment? What will you do?
Despite these facts, the protagonist, a Japanese high school student Yukari Nejima decided to confess to his longtime crush Misaki Takasaki. With the now or never attitude and of course the possibility that Misaki will be his assigned partner, Nejima decided to push through with his confession the day before his 16th birthday. Surprisingly, yes I was actually surprised, Misaki actually liked him back and they kiss just as the clock strikes midnight. How sweet. (I am being sarcastic here if you can’t tell)
Ok, I have to admit that my expectation was too high when I decided to watch this anime on Netflix. I thought it’ll be like Toradora or maybe like Clannad. See what I mean? That high! And it let me down. So bad that I honestly don’t know what to write in this review. I was like Yes, I watched it. I didn’t enjoy it. End of story.
It was up until someone reacted to my Instagram story about this anime. She or he asked me the reason why I didn’t like it. (I forgot the person’s name and I am too lazy to dig around my DM’s so if you are that person…Hi! Hehehe) I was baffled because I honestly don’t know how to justify what I just said in my story.
So after a couple of weeks, I decided to write this review. One of the things that I hated in this anime is drama. I know that IT IS a drama anime but there is a borderline between enough drama to keep the story going and too much drama that makes your head hurt. And too much of one thing is BAD! Not to mention the glorification of cheating. I just hate it. I don’t know if the creator intended it to be a part of the anime to create more DRAMA, if so I am not a fan of it.
And that is it for me. If you want an in-depth review for this anime, I suggest you check this one out: honeysanime.com/koi-to-uso-review
And if you are really in the mood for some romance anime, here is a list I saw from Google. 10 Best Romance Anime of All Time I’d rather you pick one anime from this list than watching Love and Lies. But then again, if you are curious about it. Be my guest.
I am sorry if this is more of a rant than an actual review. If you made it this far, thank you for reading! I still have a bunch of anime related reviews to come, so please do look forward to that!
