Anime Chat- Weathering With You

Anime: Weathering With You

Genre: Romance, Drama, Fantasy, Teen, Disaster

Release Date: July 19, 2019

Where to watch: Netflix

This is going to be a short one and it’s partly a rant review. Before I continue, this is what this movie is about:

A high-school boy who has run away to Tokyo befriends a girl who appears to be able to manipulate the weather.

The Story

Despite the fact that this movie was released back in 2019, I managed to avoid any spoilers regarding the story.

Honestly, I found the story quite interesting in the beginning then as the movie goes on, I started to grow bored. That “twist” was interesting but what ruined it was the selfish love that these teens have for each other.

Imagine risking the lives of millions of people just because you are in love and you want to be together. This is such a bad depiction of love and if you are one of those people who found it “charming”…

This story would have been better if they instead focused on giving us a glimpse of both Hodaka and Hina’s past. Instead of pushing that stupid romance.

The Characters

Other than me not liking the story, I am also not a fan of the main characters. They are likable, yes. I thought or at least I hoped, that there would be some character development. Sadly, I got nothing.

I am actually thinking of any good or memorable things about any characters and I have nothing.

The Art

The only saving grace. The art and animation in this movie are just beautiful. I love it.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I am glad that I finally watched this. I just wished they just focused on the whole disaster or supernatural part of this while giving light to Hodaka and Hina’s past.

One of my friends has the same opinions about what happened in this movie. While Le fiance just found it boring and yes, selfish.

What about you? What do you think?

I was actually planning to write a review for the anime 5 centimeters per second but that also just bored me. Two boring movies, back to back.

Anyway, thank you for reading this post.

I will go back to work now. I’ll talk to you again next week!
